Project: Asbestos Removal from Pipework

This project involved the removal and disposal of asbestos insulation from approximately 20 sections of pipework (cabin heating pipes) from an original Lancaster Bomber NX 6111 under fully enclosed controlled conditions.
The Lancaster Bomber is being renovated at the Lincoln Aviation Heritage Centre with the aim of returning it to flying capacity. Heating pipework in the cabin was found to have been insulated with asbestos which needed to be removed in order for the project to progress.
Due to the fragile nature of the pipework it was agreed that the work should be completed in controlled conditions away from the Heritage Centre. The fragile pipework was removed, and each piece was attached to a metal identification tag. These were then transported to Rilmac Asbestos Services Lincoln Workshop where a dedicated enclosure and DCU had been set up to allow for the safe cleaning process.
