George Tempest is 17 years old, has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and severe learning difficulties, and spent seven weeks in the Navenby Ward at Lincoln County Hospital.  During this time his family noticed a need for safe outside space which could be utilised by patients and staff.  Especially patients like George who benefits from time in an outside space.

Supported by Navenby Ward Sister Kat Mayer, Green & Sons Builders, the RAF and BBC Radio Lincolnshire campaigned for, and began building, and courtyard garden in the hospital.  The new garden was designed to use a neglected courtyard, which is overlooked by Navenby Ward.

As the project grow, and neared fruition many local suppliers donated supplies or labour.  Having a long and close relationship with Green & Sons, Rilmac were introduced to the project and were eager to help.  The Lincoln based construction subcontractors were inspired to make a donation which covered much needed finishing materials required to complete the job.

The garden was officially opened by George and with representatives from the hospital, Green & Sons, the RAF, BBC Radio Lincolnshire, and Rilmac in attendance.  Donations were welcomed in exchange for a range of delicious cakes which will be used to ensure ongoing maintenance for the garden.

George’s Garden has already received a lot of praise and will be a very worthwhile addition to the hospital for years to come.
