Rilmac Scaffolding were contracted by Lindum BMS to provide a range of access solutions for a complex project at an engineering works in Lincoln.  Due to the nature and location of the premises were required to design and erect some specialist scaffolding on site.

As the building is situated behind other workshop units which had to remain in production, access to the site was challenging.  In addition to this, one long elevation of the site directly faces a road with little pedestrian access and regular use from large vehicles.  This road could not be permanently closed, and it was not possible to gain access to the building from this direction or build scaffolding to the ground.

The elegant solution developed by Rilmac made use of cantilever scaffolding which was installed across two weekends making use of short term, temporary road closures.  This allowed for a walkway to be suspended from the building over the road.  Meanwhile, a raised walkway was built across the pitches of several workshop buildings to the working area.  This was reached via a scaffold tower erected in a different area of the engineering works allowing for access literally above the working factory units.

The works being carried out at the site by Lindum BMS included removal of furniture and other equipment from upper stories, remedial works, re-roofing and asbestos removal.  Rilmac Asbestos Services provided the asbestos removal, making use of the access routes designed by the Scaffolding team.  During the project an additional birdcage scaffold was required internally to allow for completion of the refurbishment works.
